The 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup was the ninth installment of the premier international tournament for women's association football, staged across nine cities in Australia and New Zealand from 20 July to 20 August 2023. This instance of the event is particularly notable for marking a number of firsts for the FIFA Women's World Cup, as it was:

  • the first edition of the event to be contested by 32 teams
  • the first edition to be held in two countries and regional confederations (Australia is a member of the AFC, and New Zealand a member of the OFC)
  • the first edition to feature an adjoining Fan Festival program

The defending champions were the United States; which won the 2019 tournament in France. The tournament was won by Spain, who defeated England 1-0 within regulation time at Stadium Australia on 20 August 2023.

Prior to joining with New Zealand, Football Federation Australia was engaged in a solo bid to host the event. The country initially announced their interest in 2017, following their successful hosting of the 2015 AFC Asian Cup. Later, New Zealand Football also voiced their intent to bid, fueling speculation the two countries could bid together; an arrangement they undertook for previous events, such as the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup.

On December 13, 2019, FFA and NZF announced a combined bid to co-host the event, under what they referred to as the AsOne bid. Australia and New Zealand would go on to be awarded hosting privileges by the FIFA Council on June 25, 2020, defeating the Colombian bid 22-13.

Celebrating the first FIFA Women's World Cup to feature 32 teams, the focal point of the emblem is the minimalist Telstar-style football surrounded by 32 squares. The colours of the squares are indicative of the host countries' natural landscapes and cultures. Māori Tāniko triangle patterns and First Nations Australian 'meeting place' designs are also implemented in the emblem. The event tagline "Beyond Greatness" was unveiled along side.
