The championships were delayed to 2022, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Budapest instead hosted the 2022 championships, with Fukuoka now scheduled to host in 2023.

The logo was adjusted once more to accommodate the rebranding of FINA to World Aquatics and the second delay of the championships.
