USA Rugby launched their bid for the 2027 or 2031 Men's Rugby World Cup and the 2029 Women's Rugby World Cup on 20 October 2021.

In March 2022, Australia was given preferred candidate status to the 2027 Men's and 2029 Women's Rugby World Cups. The American bid was quickly retooled for the 2031 Men's and 2033 Women's Rugby World Cups.

On 12 May 2022, the World Rugby Council proclaimed the United States as host to the 2031 Men's and 2033 Women's Rugby World Cups. The bid website was updated with a new logo to reflect the shift from bidders to confirmed hosts.
