7-Eleven is an American convenience store chain founded in 1927 in Dallas, Texas. It is the largest convenience store chain in the world, operating over 78,000 locations in 19 different countries. Although founded in the United States with headquarters in Irving, Texas, the company today is owned by its Japanese division, which itself is owned by Seven & I Holdings, based in Tokyo.

7-Eleven began as Tote'm, the name being derived from the totem pole placed in front of the first store. The first stores were originally Southland Ice Company ice docks that began selling milk, eggs, and other convenience items during hours when traditional grocery stores were closed.
