7-Eleven is a convenience store chain founded in 1927 in Dallas, Texas. It is the largest convenience store chain in the world, operating over 84,500 locations in 19 different countries (with 9,400 locations in the United States alone).

Southland Ice Company[]

7-Eleven started as an ice house in Dallas, Texas called the Southland Ice Company, it also sold eggs, milk and bread.

Tote'm Stores[]

In 1928, the Southland Ice Company's name was changed to Tote'm, the name being derived from the totem pole placed in front of the first store. Another reason it was named this was because the customers there "toted" away their purchases.

7-Eleven (first era)[]

In 1946, the stores were rebranded as 7-Eleven to emphasize their long operations hours—7 a.m. to 11 p.m.
