1972–1976[]
This logo was first used in August 1971 for the company's Discount Foods division (albeit with an outlined, instead of solid, circle), and was not fully adopted by A&P until after expansion of the WEO brand in January 1972.
September 12, 1975 (unveiling) February 7, 1976 (first use)
On February 7, 1976, A&P introduced its "sunrise" logo with virtually no fanfare, despite being a total departure from the company's mark used for 57 years prior. This logo was still displayed at many locations until its bankruptcy.
2006–2012[]
A&P modified its sunrise logo in 2006, removing the colored bands and shrinking the oval's size. A modified version of this logo was still used on Best Cellars liquor stores until its closure in 2015.
2012–2015[]
After emerging from bankruptcy in 2012, A&P brought back the classic circular logo after 36 years, albeit using the 1976 wordmark.
In June 2015, A&P filed for bankruptcy for the 2nd time in 5 years, and announced that its parent company, the Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company would close operations; shutting down all stores it was unable to sell off.
