ABP News is one of the largest Hindi news channels in India, owned by the ABP News Network, which in turn is owned by the ABP Group, a primarily Bengali-language media group.
ABP News was known as STAR News from its launch in 1998 until Star sold its news channels to ABP Group, with the rebrand effective from 1 June 2012.
STAR News (with STAR capitalised, as was the norm until the mid-2000s) was launched on 18 February 1998 as a five-year joint venture between STAR TV (now Star TV) and Indian news media company NDTV. Star took full control of the channel in 2003 and turned it into STAR News, a 24-hour Hindi news channel.
