In November 1949, with temporary permits and a franchise to operate, Bolinao Electronics Corporation established its broadcast unit, Bolinao Broadcasting System (BBS) with the launch of its first radio station, DZBC.

In 1952, following the acquisition of Bolinao Electronics Corporation by Antonio Quirino, its broadcast unit, BBS was renamed as Alto Broadcasting System (ABS), concurrently with the renaming also of its parent as Alto Electronics Corporation. ABS also launched its another radio station, DZAQ in September 1953.

1957–1962[]

On February 24, 1957, Eugenio Lopez Sr. purchased ABS along with its parent Alto Electronics Corporation from Quirino and Lindenberg. It was then followed by the changing of the logo, patterned after its sister company, CBN.

In 1962, ABS launched its logo featuring what looks like a red pill.

On September 24, 1956, brothers Eugenio Lopez Sr. and Fernando Lopez founded the Chronicle Broadcasting Network (CBN). It was named after their family-owned newspaper, Manila Chronicle. Among the stations launched by CBN on that same day were DZYL-FM (the first FM radio station in the Philippines) and DZXL. The operations of CBN and Monserrat Broadcasting System (MBS) were then absorbed by Alto Electronics Corporation in 1961, becoming its subsidiaries.
