AFC President's Cup[]
2005–2014[]
The AFC Challenge League originally started as the AFC President's Cup founded as the third tier of Asian football like what it is today. The tournament was discontinued after the 2014 edition, with teams who would have qualified for this competition entering the AFC Cup qualifying round instead.
AFC Challenge League[]
2024–present[]
On 23 December 2022, the AFC announced the formation of a new third-tier competition to go alongside their existing club competitions which were also revamped.[1] The name, AFC Challenge League, was unveiled on 14 August 2023[2]. The logo and trophy are revealed at the 34th AFC Congress on 16 May 2024.[3]
On 24 May 2024, it was announced that all records of the discontinued AFC President's Cup would be moved to the ACGL, making this a reboot of the AFC President's Cup.[4]
