1997–1998[]

In 1997, AMD released the K6 processor, replacing the AMD K5 processor. It was designed to compete with Intel's Pentium II. The original variant was discontinued within a year after they released the K6-2 3DNow! processor in May 1998.
AMD K6-2 3DNow![]
1998–2003[]

In 1998, AMD released a new version of K6 processor called K6-2 3DNow!. It was replaced by AMD Athlon processor in 1999 but they kept making K6-2 chips until 2003.
