In 1978, the designer Piero Gratton was commissioned to create a new logo for AS Roma to create a new symbol to associate to the team, as the Capitoline Wolf on the institutional crest could not be trademarked due to the City Hall of Rome not granting permission, a stylised black wolf with the red eye, known as lupetto ("little wolf") was created.
1997–2013[]
In 1997 thanks to an agreement with the City Hall of Rome, AS Roma adopted a new version of its institutional logo with the Capitoline Wolf.
