Oscarnaglobo 2014

From 2014, Rede Globo started to use a new logo for their broadcasts: a custom version of The Oscars' official logo introduced that year, abbreviated to just Oscar (as the awards are traditionally called in Brazil).

2014 (Tapete Vermelho do Oscar)[]

Tapete Vermelho do Oscar

In 2014, due to the Rio de Janeiro Carnival’ Samba parade happening the same day as the Oscars, Rede Globo's live broadcasting was replaced by a special recap in the following day entitled Tapete Vermelho do Oscar, talking about not only the awards itself but also the celebrity outfits on the event's red carpet.

2022 (Globoplay)[]

Oscar 2022 Globoplay

In 2022, due the broadcasting of Lollapalooza Brazil on TV Globo at the same day as the Oscars, the free-to-air broadcasting of the Awards in Brazil was presented on the streaming app Globoplay.

2025-present[]

Globo secured the free-to-air rights for the 2025 Oscars despite coinciding with Rio Carnival’s Samba parade, following the historic nominations of the Brazilian film "I'm Still Here", which won Best International Feature and was nominated for Best Actress (Fernanda Torres) and Best Picture. The ceremony was aired live nationwide — except in Rio de Janeiro, where Carnival coverage took precedence — and later reruns of both events shortly after the live broadcasts have ended. Additional live streams were available on Gshow and G1, while Globoplay couldn't stream due to Max's exclusive streaming rights.

For the first time, Globo uses the exact official logo from the awards - with the English naming Oscars - as their brodcasting brand.

Not Broadcast editions[]

  • 1994-1996; 2000-2004: ABC licensed the exclusive rights for the Oscars broadcasting to Globo's primary competitor, SBT, during both time periods.
  • 2009: TV Globo was unable to broadcast the Oscars as the Rio de Janeiro Carnival’ Samba parade happened the same day. This left TNT as the only broadcaster of the Oscars in Brazil.
  • 2023-2024: Globo didn't acquire the rights for the Oscars broadcasts on any media, probably due to a lack of interest from the network. This left TNT and HBO Max as the only broadcasters of the Oscars in Brazil.
