In 1988 during the closing ceremony of the Olympic Winter Games Calgary 1988. The emblem logo was introduced. It was a redesign of the bidding logo that was introduced during the mid-80s when it was in the application and bidding process.

In 1989, the mascot was introduced. He was named Magique, a little imp in the shape of a star and a cube. His colors come from the French flag. The mascot was designed by Philippe Mairesse. Originally, the mascot was going to be Chamois who was introduced at the closing ceremony of the Olympic Winter Games Calgary 1988 and was designed by Michael Pirus.
