For the toy company unrelated to this Italian company, see Ansaldo.
Ansaldo was founded in 1853 in Sampirdarena, on the outskirts of Genoa, by engineer Giovanni Ansaldo, this great corporation was involved from the beginning in the sector of naval and mechanical engineering. It was largely an idea of Cavour, whose scope was to have a domestic locomotive and construction of heavy machinery and the shipbuilding industry in a boost to national self-sufficiency in the sector.
The first Ansaldo's logo was designed in 1912 by an engineer, Soliani, and approved by the then managing director, Mario Perrone. It depicted the letter "A" adorned with a cog wheel representing the mechanical engineering side of the business, an anchor for the shipbuilding sector, two howitzers for the military sector and a lightning bolt symbolizing the electrical equipment sector.
