- The tagline for this edition was "Hiburan Sensasi ke Alaf Baru" (Thrilling in the New Millennium in Malay).
- M. Nasir won with his song "Andalusia", composed by himself.
Like the previous edition, this one was also held in early-December. This was done in order not to clash with the New Year's Eve and the millennium celebration. It was also the first edition to use the redesigned AJL logo, used subsequently in following editions.
