The first icon was used for promotions and events like WWDC where a higher resolution image was needed. iBooks was launched on April 2, 2010.

This icon was used for iOS 7 and the first betas of iOS 8.

In September 2018, iBooks was renamed Apple Books. Despite the new name, the icon remained unchanged.

This icon was first used in iOS 15 beta 2. The gap between the two pages appear wider and the bottom of the pages are less curved.

In iOS 18, the gradient was made slightly more vibrant.
