Asianet

Asianet is the oldest privately-owned Malayalam-language TV channel in India and the most popular, with a large viewership lead over competitors Mazhavil Manorama, Surya TV, Flowers TV and Zee Keralam. Launched by a private South Indian company, Asianet Communications, it was acquired by Star in 2008 (and has therefore been owned by The Walt Disney Company since 2019).^{Note 1}

Unlike Star’s other regional-language channels, Asianet and its Malayalam sister channels Asianet Movies and Asianet Plus do not carry the Star branding, whether explicitly (in both the name and the logo, e.g., Star Suvarna, Star Jalsha and Star Pravah) or implicitly (only in the logo and not in the wordmark, e.g., Star Vijay and Star Maa).

The original blue-and-pink logo was one of the most recognisable logos on South Indian television.

2012–present

A red-and-white logo and graphics package was tested for some time in 2012, then officially introduced on 2 February 2013.

HD: 2015–present

Asianet HD was launched on 13 August 2015, a day before competitor Mazhavil Manorama HD. These two were the first Malayalam HD channels. It was also the first regional-language (i.e., non-Hindi and non-English) HD channel of the Star network.^{Note 2}

Asianet- and Suvarna-branded channels were run independently until 2008 when Star bought a majority stake in Asianet Communications, including all its TV channels (except Asianet News and Suvarna News, which continue to be run by a separate company called Asianet News Network). This stake was increased to 100% in 2014.
2. Asianet HD and Mazhavil Manorama HD were the first regional-language HD channels in India (i.e., except Hindi and English) to be launched by a network other than the Sun network, which had launched three Tamil HD channels and one Telugu HD channel in December 2011.
   

Asianet HD was also Star’s first regional HD channel; it was followed by Star Jalsha HD and Jalsha Movies HD in April 2016, and Star Pravah HD and Star Vijay HD in May 2016. Later in 2016, Star Maa (then Maa TV) launched its HD feed, followed by Star Maa Movies and Star Suvarna in 2017.
