In 1977, three companies: footwear company Onitsuka Co., Ltd., sportswear company GTO, and knitwear company Jelenk, merged to create Asics Corporation. As a result, their first logo, designed by Herb Lubalin, was launched the same year. A version of the "tiger stripes" found on the sides of shoes was used as the symbol accompanying the wordmark. This logo is still used on their Asics Sportstyle and skateboarding lines of shoes, alongside the current "a" symbol, and has been used again for Asics Tiger's relaunch in 2015.
1987–2006[]
In 1987, for Asics' 10th anniversary of the merger, the wordmark was slightly thinned out.
