In November 2017, the United Soccer League announced that Atlanta United FC of Major League Soccer had acquired a USL affiliate team to begin play in the 2018 season.[1] On January 9, 2018, the team name was revealed as Atlanta United 2.[2]
In 2023, Atlanta United 2 left the USL and joined MLS Next Pro.
