On 21 October 2020, it was announced that the Seven Network would be reviving Australian Idol in 2022.
Australian Idol joins the list of several notable reality shows the network has revived/acquired in recent years, including Big Brother, Farmer Wants a Wife, Australia's Got Talent and The Voice. The new series premiered on 30 January 2023.
