In May 2016, as Disney was preparing to leave the video game development industry, they announced they would also shut down Avalanche Software as an in-house studio.

However, in January 2017, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment announced it had acquired and re-launched Avalanche.

On March 18, 2022, for the State of Play livestream for Hogwarts Legacy, a new logo for Avalanche was unveiled, modeled after the 2017 logo with a new, thin text and border. A borderless version appears on the game itself. A colored, purple variant was introduced on the studio's website.
