Ayala Land's shopping center development and management company was known originally as Ayala Center, which was also the name for its malls in Makati and Cebu, until 2004. The brand was introduced when the newly established Ayala Land started redeveloping the Makati Commercial Center (now known as Glorietta) and integrating nearby Greenbelt to form today's Ayala Center in Makati. 4 years later, Ayala Center Cebu was opened.
In 2001, though, Ayala Land introduced the Ayala Malls brand as an umbrella brand for the two Ayala Centers (in Makati and Cebu) and Alabang Town Center, but there was no logo yet.

While the Ayala Malls brand was launched in 2003, the Ayala Center branding remained in promotions and the logo was refreshed. In 2006, though, Ayala Malls started to promote Glorietta and Greenbelt as one mall (Ayala Center Makati).
The Ayala Center brand is still used in both its complexes in Makati and Cebu. Ayala Center in Makati, however, is now managed directly by Ayala Land, with Ayala Malls now managing its two malls. Ayala Center Cebu, on the other hand, remains under Ayala Malls' management.
