BBC North East and Cumbria is the BBC English Region serving County Durham, Northumberland, Teesside, Tyne and Wear, northern Cumbria and parts of North Yorkshire. Responsible for BBC One North East and Cumbria, as well as local radio stations: BBC Tees, BBC Radio Cumbria, and BBC Newcastle. Defunct services include BBC Two North East and Cumbria.

BBC North East was created in 1969 from part of the BBC North region. It is based in Newcastle.

In 1990, it was merged back into BBC North before reverting back to BBC North East in 1996.

On 4 October 1997 as part of the BBC's rebranding, BBC North East was renamed BBC North East and Cumbria.
