BBC North East and Cumbria is the BBC English Region serving County Durham, Northumberland, Teesside, Tyne and Wear, northern Cumbria and parts of North Yorkshire. Responsible for BBC One North East and Cumbria, as well as local radio stations: BBC Tees, BBC Radio Cumbria, and BBC Radio Newcastle. Defunct services include BBC Two North East and Cumbria.
1997-present
BBC North East was created in 1969 from part of the BBC North region. It is based in Newcastle. Between 1990-1996 it was merged back into BBC North, before reverting back to BBC North East. In 1997 it was re-named BBC North East and Cumbria.
