On March 24, 2021, it was announced Grupo BIG would be acquired by Grupo Carrefour Brasil, which was concluded in June 2022. With the acquisition, BIG was replaced by Carrefour as the hypermarket brand; however a significant portion of BIG stores was converted to Atacadão or Sam's Club.
