In 1948, because of obtaining Romania's monopoly for the medium and long term financing of all industrial sectors except for agriculture and food industry, SNCI was renamed to "Banca de Investiţii".

Later on, in 1990, because of the monopoly from which the bank benefited in ended, the bank was renamed to "Banca Română pentru Dezvoltare", a name that remains used to date.

In 1999, Banca Română pentru Dezvoltare was bought by Société Générale, thus adding the latter's name under the wordmark. However, it would continue to operate under the full name until 2004.
BRD — Groupe Société Générale[]

In August 2003, a new logo for BRD was introduced, using Société Générale branding. However, barely on June 10, 2004 would Banca Română pentru Dezvoltare get renamed to BRD — Groupe Société Générale officially.

Despite the fact that the brand had changed their logo, the older 1999 logo is still used on many other locations.
