All of 4K television channels were launched in December 1, 2018. On September 8, 2025, it was reported that the 5 Japanese commercial satellite channels (BS Nittele, BS Asahi, BS-TBS, BS TV Tokyo, and BS Fuji) would end its 4K channel simulcasts by 2027 due to its financial deficit ballooning to US$ 200 million (combined for the 5 satellite channels), the increasing costs (both from producing 4K programs and maintaining the 4K channel simulcasts), and certain viewers being unable to notice the difference in picture quality between the 2K and 4K satellite channels.[1] Future programs by that time will instead be available on TVer and on each broadcaster's on-demand services.
