In 1999, the 1996 shield logo was demoted to an alternate logo. However, it was soon replaced in 2000 by the current Ravens shield logo.

Due to a lawsuit by Frederick Bouchat, an amateur artist from the Baltimore area, over the above logo being his original design and which was used by the team without his permission, the team was forced to change their logo to this 'Ravens head B' in 1999.
