Bank Mandiri was formed in October 1998. In July 1999, four previous state-owned banks in Indonesia such as Bank Dagang Negara, Bank Pembangunan Indonesia (Bapindo), Bank Expor Impor (BankExim) and Bank Bumi Daya were merged into Bank Mandiri.
On January 14, 2008, Bank Mandiri changed its logo into gold ribbon waving above the blue wordmark that written as simply 'Mandiri' instead of 'Bank Mandiri'. It was designed by Indonesian branch of Brand Union (now Superunion).
