On April 23, 2023, Bed Bath & Beyond filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. Soon after the filing, the company announced that they would be shuttering all of their physical stores in the United States, as well as all Buy Buy Baby stores in the U.S. The final locations would close on July 30, 2023.
The Canadian operations of Bed Bath & Beyond had previously announced its closure on February 10, 2023, and closed the last of its locations on April 27, 2023. Despite the closure of the American and Canadian stores, the Mexican stores of Bed Bath & Beyond would remain open and are a separate legal entity from the bankrupted American counterpart.
On June 28, 2023, Overstock.com won a bid to acquire the Bed Bath & Beyond name and intellectual property in a bankruptcy auction, with plans to rebrand itself under the Bed Bath & Beyond name and a relaunched website in the United States and Canada in July 2023, although they don't plan to acquire existing retail stores or establishing new ones.
