Belle Foods was formed in early 2012 to acquire Southern Family Markets and its subsidiaries, including Bruno's and Food World. The first conversions were started in July 2012. Belle Foods filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on July 1, 2013 and began closing 13 of their 57 stores. Their remaining 44 locations and other assets were acquired by Associated Wholesale Grocers later that month.
