In 1971, the image was removed from packaging, before coming back again in 1983.
Starting in mid-to-late June 2020, many brands with black or mixed-race characters incorporated into their branding (including Aunt Jemima, Eskimo Pie, Cream of Wheat, Mrs. Butterworth's, and namely, Uncle Ben's) said they would make changes to their logos, packaging and even names following protests over systematic racism against them.
On June 17, 2020, the owner of Uncle Ben's, Mars, Incorporated, announced that they would be "evolving" the brand's identity, including its logo and name.
This wordmark-only logo without the image of "Uncle Ben" was used online before the new name was launched.
The new name, Ben's Original, was revealed on September 23, 2020, along with a new logo. Packaging using this logo and name will hit store shelves in 2021.
