1968-1972[]

The Big Star name was revived by Colonial Stores in 1968, after a predecessor supermarket of the same name.

1971-1981[]

Big Star was acquired by Grand Union in 1978.

Big Star adopted a logo in the style of Grand Union's a year after their "red dot" rebrand. By 1983, all Colonial Stores locations were rebranded to the Big Star name. Stores in Virginia and the Carolinas were sold to Harris Teeter in 1988, with the remaining Georgia stores being purchased by A&P in March 1993 and closing by May.
