The logo icon was made in Traces, but converted to Blender after Traces' infrastructure became outdated, forcing a new program to be created.[2] The wordmark was created for Siggraph 1999, and was intended to be temporary, since, Blender at the time didn't have any specific font.[3]

Blender

After getting investors, Blender needed a new professional brand, and thus designed a new, flat icon, intended to represent an eye, and a hand. The initial wordmark had a larger iris, however, this was later adjusted to be smaller for the final product.[4]
