Boston Americans[]

1901-1907[]

In the first years of the American League, Boston had several nicknames besides "Americans". Newspapers at that time called this team as: "Somersets", "Plymouth Rocks", "Collinsites" and "Pilgrims". The team originally wore blue.

Boston Red Sox[]

1908[]

The nickname "Red Sox" was first adopted by then owner John I. Taylor as an inspiration of the Boston National League club formerly known as the "Red Stockings" (now the Atlanta Braves).

1909-1911[]

The blocky "BOSTON" logo from the "Americans" seasons was used again, but now it's colored in red.

1912-1923[]

A blocky "RED SOX" logo was first created by the time the club moved to the recently built Fenway Park which opened on April 20, 1912. This along with the blocky "BOSTON" logo were also featured as a home and road jersey until 1936.

1924-1960[]

A pair of hanging red socks make their debut and becomes the team's main identity since then. It had several variations as seen on pennants, magazines and other merchandise.

1961–1969[]

The hanging socks gets a redesign as it looks today, but it's now plastered inside a baseball.

1970–1975[]

A slightly modified version of the "socks in a baseball" logo. This time the hanging socks are properly centered as the baseball was given simplified stitches.

1976–2008[]

The "socks in a baseball" logo is placed into a roundel accompanied by the name of the team in red and navy colors.

2009–present[]

Introduced on November 11, 2008, this logo made its official debut during the 2009 season. The redesigned hanging socks from 1961 became as a sole logo.
