From 2018 onwards, in addition to its current usage for independent films produced outside of North America, Disney uses the Buena Vista International brand for films distributed in international markets begining with Glass (2019), which was distributed in the US by Universal Pictures. As of 2021, the brand is also used for non-US films that are not planned for a Disney+ release in global markets, beginning with Just Short of Perfect (2021).

In early 2022, Disney Latin America announced that the Buena Vista brand was completely retired in Latin America (except in Brazil, where the brand wasn't adopted until November of that year). Subsequently, the Latin American division of Buena Vista International was renamed to Star Distribution. The name was directly taken from Disney's general entertainment television and streaming service brand in Latin America of the same name.
