This was the original logo used at all Butlin's resorts, said to have been designed by Sir Billy Butlin himself.
The company's first resort was opened at Skegness on the Lincolnshire coast in April 1936, before expanding to a second resort at Clacton-on-Sea in 1938. Butlin's enjoyed the peak of its success from the end of the Second World War right through to the mid-1960s, with a further 7 holiday camps opening at Filey in Yorkshire (1945), Ayr in Scotland and Pwhelli in North Wales (1947), Mosney in Ireland (1948), Bognor Regis in West Sussex (1960), Minehead in Somerset (1962), and Barry Island in South Wales (1966), bringing the total to 9.
