The channel's transmissions began in September 1997 after the launch of the Vía Digital cable operator. It made suspense, horror and comedy films made in the United States in the 1980s and 1990s, as well as pornographic films starting at 12:00 a.m. At the end of 1999, it was acquired by Mediapark and its programming focused on horror films (although maintaining the share of pornographic films at midnight).

Dark began on November 1, 2006, after separating the contents of Canal 18, maintaining the brand for adult-only broadcasts, and using the Dark brand for horror and suspense films. The first broadcast at dawn, from 1:00 to 5:00 and Dark from 9:30 to 1:00 (Dark from 9:30 to 0:00 and Canal 18 from 0:00 to 5:00 in January 2009).

On July 1, 2009, Teuve decided to merge Buzz and Dark/Canal 18, as a result, the Buzz and Canal 18 brands were kept, while the Dark brand was phased out.

On February 1, 2011, Chello Multicanal decided to re-launch the Dark channel maintaining the name of Buzz Rojo / Canal 18, which means that since that day Buzz Rojo broadcasts more movies and horror series as did Dark when it aired. Its programming goes from 09:30 to 00:00, time in which it gives way to Canal 18 and its programming for adults.

On September 2, 2013, due to legal issues, Chello Multicanal eliminated Canal 18 after 16 years of uninterrupted broadcasting and was replaced by Dorcel TV, another European channel that was born in 2006 and that also emits erotic content.

On October 31, 2016, AMC Networks rebranded the channel into Dark, giving way to a terror programming with series and cinema of all subgenres of terror: slasher, horror comedies, movies, psychological horror, and anime.
