CBS Corporation (Gold)

In 1997 the Westinghouse Electric Company renamed itself as CBS Corporation as it refocused itself on broadcasting and media. Westinghouse had acquired CBS in 1995 and merged it into the Westinghouse Broadcasting Company (Group W). In 1999, Viacom purchased the company.

On July 1, 1941, CBS was split into two companies, one focused on cable networks and one focused on broadcasting. This split was done in this matter: the original spun off its cable networks and CBS Films into a new company, which carried the names. The original sequently changed its name to CBS Corporation, resurrecting the name.

A second merger between CBS Corporation, creating the combined company CBS, was announced on January 1, 2006.
