CCTV-2 (Finance Channel) is one of CCTV's free-to-air channels; in the early stage, it acted as a sub-primary channel for CCTV, & mainly broadcast educational programmes. From October 10, 2003, CCTV-2 adapted to be a professional financial channel with a few sports schedules.

As on May 1st, 1978 when Beijing Television was renamed to China Central Television (CCTV), Beijing Television Program 2 was renamed to China Central Television Program 2, shortly known as CCTV-2. But, there was no on-screen logo until February 1987 when CCTV-2 became available in nationwide.

In 1993, its programming was updated to a mostly economic-based schedule.
1998-2001[]
On July 3, 2000, it changed its name to "中央电视台经济·生活·服务频道" (CCTV Economy, Lifestyle and Services Channel).

In 2003, the name was changed to "中央电视台经济频道" (CCTV Economy Channel).
2009–2012; 2009–2011 (On-screen bug)[]
On August 24, 2009, it changed its name to "中央电视台财经频道"(CCTV Finance Channel), & on September 21 in the same year, the test "财经频道" (Finance Channel) was added to the bottom of the onscreen bug.
2011–present[]
On January 1, 2011, the text "财经" (Finance) was added to CCTV-2's screen bug.
