In November 1975, the now independent Scientific & Medical Instruments was taken over by Melbourn, Cambridgeshire-based Metals Research Ltd., and renamed back to Cambridge Instruments. Cambridge acquired Bausch & Lomb's Optical Scientific Products Division and Reichert-Jung in 1986, and later agreed to merge with Wild Leitz in July 1989, forming Leica Group in April 1990.
