Canal 5 (stylized as 5*) is a Mexican television network operated and owned by TelevisaUnivision. The channel was founded by Guillermo Gonzalez Camarena on 10 May 1952, and began broadcasting 3 months later on the 18th of August across the country. Its call sign, XHGC, is derived from the founder's initial surnames, Gonzalez Camarena. In the network's digital TV signal, all of Canal 5's stations has been assigned as channel 5, except XETV in Tijuana–San Diego, which is assigned as channel 6.

The channel's first logo was the text "XHGC" in the Song Vendor font, and the word "Canal" in the Gillies Gothic font along with the "5".

The logo was designed by Gonzalez Camarena, described as a red circle with an Aztec design. Inspired by the 5 peso bill, it's design looks like a studio building, with two lower circles connecting with the upper circle. All white shapes are shared in half with blue, except the two trapeziums.

1970–1980[]

For a decade, the logo used a number 5 with the Poster font (using a Didot typeface), with its callsign of the foot of the number, and the word "CANAL" was on the head of 5.

This one is the 5 with the XHGC call sign on the foot of the number, and the word "CANAL" on the head of it.

This one has circles forming the sea inside the number.

This one left the number simple as a solid texture. Also used by HRTG-TV in Honduras.

When Televisa was founded on January 8, 1973, The logo was placed inside the sun of the Televisa logo. Same thing for it's sister stations, XETV, XHTV and XHTM.

1980–1986[]

KSTP-XHGC-HRTG 5

The "Groovy 5" logo was used by XHGC-TV from 1980 to 1989. The same logo was used by Saint Paul, Minnesota ABC affiliate KSTP-TV in 1969 (when it was still affiliated with NBC). The silhouette of the "5" is similar to the current logo of Canal 5 in Honduras. XHGC-TV stopped using the logo in 1989 along with KSTP-TV, who stopped using it in 1991.

Adopt the name of "La Huella". This one represents a golden lion's footprint, as it was symbolized by XHGC's mascot at the time, which was a purple cat called "GC" used for children's programming. From that year, the channel was identified by it's call sign until 1991.

On June 6, 1988, XHGC adopted the motto "Energía Visual", and also adopted an aesthetic that allowed to change the logo in each promotional material. The logo had a design of various colours and these custom logos in promotional material had different forms.

1990–1991[]

In 1990, XHGC adopted the slogan "La Señal", identifying the channel with the "XHGC" call sign with the colors yellow, green, blue and red.

1991–1993[]

On November 4, 1991, the channel adopted a simple 5 with a silver colour, placed in the center of an orange circle, within it were five interwoven orange metallic circles that turned in the shape of an atom. Some promotional materials and idents continued using it until 1995. It initially adopted the slogan "En tus cinco sentidos", although it also dealt with "En tu mismo canal", which was used until 1997.

This logo was adopted on January 7, 1993. It is circular with the number "5" in silver with a background that had multiple colours, and was constantly surrounded by a golden circle. In addition, the self-promotional material addressed various topics as in a commercial. The motto of "En tus cinco sentidos" remained.

1994–1996[]

By September 5, 1994, the logo was changed into a similar one, where three antennas are added on the outside of the circle, and two sectors connecting the two; although one of the sectors is transferred from one antenna to another.

The logo was a redesign of the 1994 one, in which irregular shapes would be used, only with a ring. Since January 7, 1996, an asterisk that began with eight points has been adopted.

As XHGC-TV was expanding nationwide when it first signed on it's first provincial repeater, Televisa needed a more stable change for its two nationwide networks. In 1997, the station became known simply as Canal 5.

The channel had 2 similar logos that began to be used on September 15, 1997. The main one was a "5" located at the center of an asterisk (*) with round lines, inside a hoop; in black and white.

The other that is derived from the first one, used in the channel's promotional materials; It is the same asterisk, but in a gray-white 3D that moved in circles of an irregular shape, with the digit "5" in black and it adopted the caption "Fabulojos 3D".

1999–2013[]

From 1999, Canal 5 adopts a logo that was used for around 13-14 years, from which different variants were used until this logo's discontinuation.

Later, the white ring became thicker as part of a minor change.

In 2007, the logo became a red circle, and the asterisk changed to become pink.

XHGC-TV5 (2013 Jan)

On January 7, 2013, this interim logo was adopted, consisting of a five in a stylized form (similar to that of 1997), accompanied by an asterisk placed on the right side of the number made in an irregular shape.

In August of 2013, the first interim logo was replaced by a five formed by a white origami ribbon, accompanied by an asterisk, accompanied by the typographic font "ITC Avant Grade".

On January 6, 2014, another interim logo was introduced consisting simply of a pentagon of colors (with a two-tone variant of the Mexican pink color as the main one), with a large number 5 peeking out from the pentagon.

On July 14, 2014, the channel adopts a new final logo after 15 years, finally ending the interim logos. This one is formed by a number 5 formed by a pair of lines and an asterisk in the center curve.
