The original logo for Chicago's bid for the 2016 Olympics was unveiled in October 2006. The "handle" is green and blue to represent Lake Michigan and the city's park, while the fire is a stylistic representation of the Chicago skyline.
2007–2009[]
Olympic guidelines disallowed bid logos from including explicit Olympic imagery such as medals and torches. In September 2007, as Chicago became a candidate city, the torch logo was replaced with a similar design with the Chicago 6-pointed star.
