CityTV 1972

Citytv debuted their first logo in their launch in 1972. At the time, Citytv was referred to as C-I-T-Y, their original station call letters, which were granted by the Canadian Radio and Television Commission in 1971. This logo was usually seen during their station identification, narrated by Dan Aykroyd. The station would broadcast 16 hours a day with repeated programming from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. From the very start, Citytv has used the Helvetica typeface in their branding.

In 1973, Citytv updated their logo to a thinner version of the above logo as well as switching to an all-white colour with a red outline supporting it. Citytv would change that logo to the famous red and blue style in 1974. While keeping the same typeface, the "tv" would be moved from bottom of the "City" to the right of the text, and the red outline would be removed for more simplicity.

In 1982, Citytv updated the above logo for a more bolder look. This helps signify the station's change from channel 79 to channel 57, whilst still staying on cable channel 7 on Toronto cable providers (until 2003).

In March 2001, Citytv removed the notable red and blue colours from the above logo and began using only one colour. It also marked the final logo for Citytv as a one-station system in Toronto, as CHUM purchased CKVU-TV in Vancouver from CanWest Global Communications in July of that year, prompting the change of its branding to Citytv in July 2002. In 2005, three more Citytv stations were added in Calgary (CKAL), Edmonton (CKEM) and Winnipeg (CHMI) after CHUM purchased the A-Channel television stations and other assets owned by Craig Media (the existing A-Channel brand was revamped and was transferred to CHUM's former NewNet stations).

City

City

In November 2012, the station started edging away from using the Citytv branding in its voiceovers, and began calling itself City Television, although the Citytv branding was still heavily seen in promos and on bugs on the lower-right portion of the screen. Throughout the decades, announcers have informally referred to the station as City during select voiceover announcements; however, throughout December of that year, the station's (and entire system's) website phased in the "City" branding completely. The first full-time usage of the sole branding of "City" occurred on-air on December 31, 2012, coinciding with the City New Year's Bash broadcast. Starting in the fall of 2018, the station (and entire system) reintroduced the Citytv branding as a whole on television, on websites, and on their social media accounts.
