Following the merger of the United Communist Party of America and the Communist Labor Party of America, the two would officially merge to create the Communist Party of America - Section of the Communist International, named as such to not confuse itself from the UCPA's predecessor, the Communist Party of America.

In 1944, the organization would rename itself the Communist Political Association under Browder's leadership before he would be expelled in 1946.

Starting in 1979, the Communist Party of the United States of America would adopt the hammer, sickle, and cog.

Since 1982, variations of this logo have been used. In this logo, the tip of the sickle has been shortened and partially rounded, however it is to be noted that in some places in which variations of this logo are used, the end is not rounded.
