Sex TV: The Channel
W Movies originally launched on September 7, 2001 as Sex TV: The Channel, whose name and format was derived from the now-defunct program, Sex TV, which aired on Canadian broadcast television system City.
On July 14, 2009, CTVglobemedia (now Bell Media) announced that it would sell Sex TV: The Channel to Corus Entertainment; Corus later announced that it would rebrand the channel as W Movies, reformatted as a sister channel of W Network, primarily featuring films targeting women.
