The Corrida de São Silvestre is a running marathon done yearly at the city of São Paulo, Brazil, at the day of December 31st, day of death of Pope Sylvester I (canonized years later as Saint Sylvester). The marathon, founded and organized by the Fundação Cásper Líbero, who owns TV Gazeta and owned the Gazeta Esportiva sports newspaper, is aired by both Gazeta and TV Globo (since 1982). Originally realized at nighttime, it switched to the morning-afternoon hours in 1987 (the last nightly version being realized on December 31st, 1986).
