On 1 February 1983, Crave launched as First Choice, being one of Canada's first national premium services. However, starting on its first day of operation, First Choice offered its programming for free for 14 days, until it was scrambled afterwards.
First Choice's first idents were similar and/or reused from other channels in the world:
- Its main and Your Next Choice idents were similar to those from Rede Manchete in Brazil, as they were based off of templates (contrary to what most people believe).
- Its Feature Presentation idents were reused from those used by HBO in the United States between 1979 and 1983. However, the endings of each ident were edited. Additionally, the Feature Presentation ident being shown depended on the movie's age rating.
First Choice Superchannel[]
1984–1989[]
In 1984, First Choice was renamed to First Choice Superchannel and changed its logo, until returning back to the old name and logo in 1989.
