Starting in mid-to-late June 2020, many brands with mixed-race characters incorporated into their branding (including Uncle Ben's, Aunt Jemima, Eskimo Pie, Mrs. Butterworth's, and namely, Cream of Wheat) said they would make changes to their logos, packaging and even names following protests over systemic racism against them.
On June 17, 2020, the owner of Cream of Wheat, B&G Foods, announced that they were initiating an immediate review of the Cream of Wheat branding and the chef that appears on their products.
The chef was removed from the logo and packaging in 2020.
