Cyworld was founded in 1999.
2007-2020, 2021-present[]
Cyworld went through many problems in the late 2010's, including unpaid wages. Starting from October of 2019, its website was unresponsive, and on May 26, 2020, Cyworld closed its doors, with the original domain expiring in August of 2020. However in February 2021, a new company, Cyworld Z, acquired the company for 1 billion won, paying all unpaid wages, reviving the company and reinstating all 18 billion photos and 150 million videos to their original Minihomepies. The restoration project took over a year, and Cyworld finally reopened on April 2nd, 2022.
