DD North-East is a terrestrial TV channel, run by Doordarshan, that covers the northeastern states of India: Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura and Sikkim. It is based in Guwahati, the largest city in the state of Assam and also the region. Therefore, the channel's programming is predominantly from Assam, and it is run by Doordarshan Kendra Guwahati (kendra meaning ‘headquarters’).
While there are several private Assamese TV channels, the other Northeastern states do not have any 24-hour TV channels, barring a few Doordarshan channels which air between the afternoon and night. To counter this deficit, a 24-hour channel, DD Arun Prabha, was launched on 9 February 2019 covering the state of Arunachal Pradesh.
